Questions and answers
The things studios ask us before they start, answered plainly.
Price and plan
How much does BobbinBill cost?
$24 a month, or $240 a year (two months free). One plan with every feature and no limits on quilts or customers. See Pricing.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Every new studio gets 30 days free, and we don't ask for a card until you choose a plan.
What happens after the trial?
Choose monthly or yearly in Settings and carry on. If you don't, the studio goes read-only: nothing is deleted and you can still look at everything, but you can't add or change quilts until you subscribe.
Exporting your data keeps working, and so do your customers' portal pages, so nobody is left unable to see their quilt or pay you.
What's a founding studio?
The first studios to join pay $15 a month instead of $24, for as long as they stay subscribed. Places are limited and set up by hand. Ask about a place.
How do I cancel?
From Settings in your studio, anytime, with no phone call. Monthly plans run to the end of the paid month. Yearly plans cancelled within 30 days of paying get a prorated refund. The Refund Policy has the details. Take an export before you go; it's yours to keep.
Getting paid
Stripe or Quick Pay: what's the difference?
Quick Pay uses your Venmo or Cash App. BobbinBill builds a pay link and QR code with the amount filled in; the money goes straight from your customer to you, free. BobbinBill can't see those payments, so you record each one when it arrives.
Stripe lets customers pay by card from their portal page, into your own Stripe account. Stripe charges its usual processing fee, BobbinBill adds no fee on top, and the payment records itself on the quilt.
You can offer either, both, or neither and record cash and checks by hand.
Does BobbinBill take a cut of my payments?
No. Your subscription is the only thing BobbinBill charges. Card payments carry Stripe's own fees.
Can customers pay a deposit or part of the bill?
Yes. Each payment is its own row, so deposits and part payments add up and the balance due is always current. A statement can gather everything a customer owes into one total with one pay link.
Your data
Who owns my data?
You do. Your studio's records, and your customers' details, belong to you. We keep them to run BobbinBill for you and never sell them. The Privacy Policy says exactly what we keep and who helps us run the service.
Can I get my data out?
Anytime. Settings, Your data downloads a zip of CSV files: customers, quilts, invoices and their lines, messages, expenses, mileage and every Library list. They open in Excel or anything else.
Can I bring my records in?
Yes. Import customers, quilt history, price lists and designs from CSV files, with a dry run first and an undo for 24 hours. Coming from MQBM? See Switching from MQBM.
How do I delete my studio?
Settings, Danger zone: export first, then choose Request studio deletion. We confirm by email before anything is removed, and once a studio is deleted it can't be brought back.
Security and access
Is my studio's information safe?
BobbinBill runs on established hosting (Vercel for the app, Neon for the database) over encrypted connections, with backups kept by the database host. Each studio's records are kept apart in the database itself, not only in the app, so one studio can never see another's.
Sign-in is handled by Clerk, and card details go to Stripe; they never touch BobbinBill's servers.
How do customers get into their portal page?
Each customer has a private link of their own, with no password to remember. If a link ends up somewhere it shouldn't, reset it from the customer's page and the old one stops working.
Can my helper have their own login?
Not yet. A studio has one login, the owner's. Inviting helpers and a bookkeeper comes later.
Using BobbinBill
Is there a desktop app?
No. BobbinBill runs in your web browser on a computer, tablet or phone, so there's nothing to install and it's the same studio on every device. It needs an internet connection; there's no offline mode.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Take photos at intake, check the next step at the frame, and record a payment while the customer is in front of you.
How do I get help?
Every screen in the studio has a Help button with the article for that screen, and Send feedback reaches us directly. Or write to hello@bobbinbill.com or use the contact form. A real person answers, usually within one or two working days.
Try it with your own quilts.
30 days free, no card needed. Then $24 a month or $240 a year, with everything included.
